I’m the type of person that will try anything to keep my skin in good condition. After battling acne for years I have become skin obsessed! Having a wide range of facial treatments available to me is just one of the perks to my current job in London. The girls had just got back from Dermaplanning training so, of course I volunteered to be a guinea pig for the ultimate facial treatment.
Step 1: Dermaplanning
Dermaplanning in simple terms is using a blade to shave away any dead skin and fine hairs from the face. Rachael my practitioner used a sterile scalpel at a 45 degree angle, swiping up the face in a gentle motion. It does sound scary but, it doesn’t hurt one bit. You can see an instant improvement in the skin after the treatment. All fine hair (peach-fuzz) is removed from the face and there are no more dead skin cells which leaves an immediate difference in the tone and texture of the skin. I have never felt my skin so smooth before. It is an excellent quick fix treatment as no prep is required and there is down time.
Everyone’s immediate reaction to when I tell them about this treatment…. Will the hairs grow back darker or thicker? The answer is no, facial hair is vellus hair, rather than the dark hair that grows on other areas of the body (terminal hairs). Shaving vellus hairs will not turn them into terminal hairs.
The Dermapen is the worlds first microneedling pen and it is quickly taking the place of the microneedling rollers. This was my third Dermapen treatment. I have to say it is not exactly a nice thing to get done, it can hurt on some areas of the face more than others but I am definitely tolerating it better now.
Unlike the Dermaroller the Dermapens needle depth can be changed during the treatment. The needle depth ranges from a 0.25mm to a 2.5mm. It has 12 needles on the tip of the pen and these needles are used to puncture the top layer of the skin. Rachael used the 2mm depth on me for this treatment. I have small areas of pigmentation, scarring and congestion which the Dermapen helps to clear.
The benefits of the Dermapen are endless. The Dermapen tricks the skin into producing collagen and elastin to promote healing and the result is rejuvenated skin. The Dermapen is used mostly for face wrinkles, lines, scars and stretch marks. The punctures created in the scar tissue and stretch marks will cause the skin to initiate healing and, the damaged skin will tend to get eliminated and replaced with new skin. For wrinkles and face lines, the produced collagen and elastin will cause the skin to thicken and also tighten leaving the skin looking youthful.
Step 3: Opera LED Face Mask
The Opera LED Mask is the perfect post care treatment for skin which has had microneedling. The Opera Mask uses a mixture of Infra-Red and Blue lights to provide an optimum combination for skin rejuvenation, post care and acne care to the face and neck.
Rachael applied nourishing ingredients to my skin after cooling it down with damp gauze. She then placed the mask over my face for 20 minutes. This aids the skins recovery by accelerating the wound healing process and minimizing side effects such as redness.
Here are images of my skin before, straight after the treatment and 2 weeks later. I always use the correct home care products to ensure I get the best results from my treatment.
